Dr. Lauren Payne

Board-Certified Dermatologist, Skincare Myth-Buster

Dr. Payne is a Board-Certified Dermatologist on a mission to make skincare science simple – and sass free. Having a knack for debunking TIkTok and other social media viral trends mixed with a passion for inclusive skin health, she’s the dermatologist you wish you had on speed dial! When she’s not in clinic at Flourish Dermatology and Aesthetics in New Orleans, LA or recording Symptoms and Side Eyes with her co-host Dr. Deniece, you’ll likely find her testing out (and trashing) overpriced and underperforming serums and creams – all in the name of skin health and the TRUTH!

Fun Fact: Dr. Payne diagnosed a rare skin condition that a patient had been dealing with for several months, all by a selfie on a cell phone ( though this is not recommended at home)

Dr. Deniece Johnson

Double Board-Certified Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine Physician

Deniece Johnson, MD, is a Board-Certified Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine physician with a strong emphasis on lifestyle medicine. She is passionate about empowering patients to take control of their health through sustainable changes in nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and sleep hygiene. A graduate of Morehouse School of Medicine, Dr. Johnson completed her residency in internal medicine at Emory University, where she cultivated her holistic approach to patient care. Her clinical focus lies in preventing and reversing chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity through evidence-based lifestyle interventions.

Dr. Johnson believes that medicine should be proactive rather than reactive, and she works closely with her patients to create individualized wellness plans that prioritize long-term vitality. She has a special interest in treating health disparities in underrepresented communities and often speaks at local and national health conferences. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Johnson is an advocate for health equity and serves on several advisory boards dedicated to improving community wellness. Her practice philosophy blends the science of medicine with the art of behavioral change, making her a trusted partner in her patients’ health journeys.

Fun Fact: Dr. Johnson likes to joke that the human body is the original smartwatch—capable of monitoring hydration, sleep, and stress levels… if only we paid closer attention to our own “notifications” (like hunger and fatigue)!
